Traditional UK Homes Aren't Built for Heatwaves.
When the sun hits your window, it creates a greenhouse effect inside your room. Internal blinds, reflectors and curtains help a little, but the reality is the heat is already trapped inside the house.Mediterranean buildings have used external shutters and blinds for centuries because they’re highly effective at keeping solar energy out and keeping homes cool.Permanent external shutters don’t make much sense in the UK, though. It’s hot for only a few weeks of the year, and shutters can cost thousands.
Why we created LoopShade
We’re a couple of building physics engineers who spent the first years of our careers working with architects to design sustainable solutions for keeping buildings cool.We got frustrated. Our home was overheating - why couldn’t we benefit from the same approaches used in the high-end architecture projects we worked on?We created LoopShade to fill this gap in the market - a product which can be installed on our Victorian sash windows in seconds, keeps our home cool by cutting solar gains, and can be stashed away in a drawer when the cool weather returns.
How it works
Installed in three simple steps
Step 1: Clip & Drop
Open your top sash window, hang the shade outside using the thin high-tensile ribbons to hold it in place.Step 2: Tension & Secure
Pull the ribbons taut from inside the room. Use the dual-mode anchor blocks to hold the ribbons in place. Either allowing the Loopshade to hang freely as a drop curtain, or passing the anchors under the bottom sash for a wind-resistant, taut fit.Step 3: Enjoy the Chill
The micro-perforated, premium shading textile blocks the blazing sun, cutting the room temperature by up to 5°C, while still letting natural light and fresh air filter into your room.

FAQs - Wind, Rain and Window Opening
- Will I be able to close my window with the ribbon in place? Yes, each ribbon is incredibly strong, holding up to 50Kg, but is only 0.5mm in thickness, meaning wooden or UPVC sash windows can easily close around it.- What if it rains? the LoopShade is non-absorbent and permeable, meaning it’s perfectly suitable to leave it in place during rain showers- Will it flap in the wind? the LoopShade has a weighted bottom seam, which means it sits in place during light breezes when hung from the top. If you are expecting stronger gusts, the LoopShade can be hung using the anchors in the bottom configuration. In this setup the wind stays can be used to prevent it from flapping.- Can I still open the window for fresh air? Yes, when hung using the top anchor configuration, the bottom sash can be opened for fresh air. When hung using the bottom anchor configuration, the top sash can be opened. To keep your home cool, though, we only recommend opening your window when the air is cooler outside than inside.
